“Wait, what? You JUST started this blog! You are quitting already?”
While falling down the blogging research rabbit hole with the quickness of a toilet flush, I discovered that the only reason to start a blog, it seems, is to HUSTLE and STRATEGIZE and MAKE $10,000 A MONTH and PROFIT and SIX FIGURES and MONEY MONEY MONEY MOOOONNAAAAYYYYY!!!!
I wasn’t finding anyone on YouTube or anyone with a blog that was discussing this platform as a writers portfolio or a place for someone like me to test out their writing skills. I am sure they are out there but their SEO strategies must suck. Every platform has a monetizing aspect to it. Every platform asks about my brand, my niche, and my audience.
So here are the three reasons blogging is a bad idea:
1. If you plan on making money with your blog, you have to put a price tag on your worth. Blogging is looked at as a DIY career. Once you decide to start, you better be working towards getting that income flowing!
2. Blogging usually consists of people writing about their personal lives. What if the people in your life don't want anything to do with being on your blog? How do you navigate that?
3. Blogging takes up so much time! I have already spent so many hours figuring out how to build a website, using templates, widgets, thinking of things to write about and THEN taking the time to actually write.
I haven't been blogging for very long, as a matter of fact it hasn't even been one week! In my blogging research fervor I have found that blogging is an intense and time consuming career.
Do I want this?
No, I don't think I want content creating as a career but I am not quitting yet. I am not done sharing things for free yet. Maybe in the future this blog can become some sort of revenue stream for me, but for now I am just here to write. I am fully aware that I will be publishing these posts into a void of nothingness in the hopes that it will randomly smack someone in the face - in a good way.
Sincerely Yours,
Jen
