I finished the last of my summer reading books the DAY BEFORE my classes started! If you read my post Family Summer Reads 2024: Teen Faves, Classic Literature and More, I shared the very specific criteria that I follow when choosing my books. Here it is again:
1. Self Help. Non-fiction, motivational, life skills, mental health improvement, etc.
2. Fluff. Fluff books are an easy read from any genre. It can be a twisted and convoluted plot line, but no complicated language where I am having to look up definitions of words to get through it. I've heard this genre described as poorly written but I don't agree! I think there can be well written, fully entertaining Fluff books.
3. Career Building. Anything that has to do with writing.
4. Literary Classic. Again, I am an English Major so I need to get caught up on these!
5. Any Fiction. This one can include more difficult to read books. My favorite genre is science and apocalyptic fiction which can sometimes be more complicated to read (Dune slowed me down big time).
6. Open Category. No limit to the number of books, not limited to any one genre.
I have no updates on how the rest of my family did with their summer reads. I’m pretty sure none of them finished one book and actually I’m not mad about it at all. I’d rather my kids choose to read for their own enjoyment and not have me harping on them to do it. They get enough of that during school. Anyway, here are the books I completed! I will be writing a review for all of them separately over the next few weeks and posting them here on my blog, so stay tuned!
